Software is expensive, not often portable and each version forces so much relearning that people (including myself) don't want to use it. Just ask Windows 8.1.

If there is anything Windows 10 taught us, it is that when something works don't fix it.

Gimp has been around for a long time and works on Windows, Mac and LINUX.

My Brother and I often replace a popular verb today "photoshoped" with "Gimped." We use it nearly synonymous with any kind of editing.

Step 1 -- Download Gimp

Open source software is so often reserved for geeks. Please don't let this discourage you. The GNU Image Manipulation Program or GIMP is free, powerful and accessible. There are millions of different cutesy programs for your mobile or computer that make you have big eyes or filter pictures to make them black and white, but spending a bit of time with GIMP will allow you to manipulate electronic images to do anything.

Step 2 -- Dont be afraid.

Poke around the software. It is powerful. The scope of this post merely points you in the direction of a high level image manipulation. It can edit many different types of pixel map files. It is easier to point out the things it can't do rather than the things it can.

It Cannot

- It cannot (really) handle something called vectors. If you don't know what this is, don't worry about it.

- It cannot handle (really) videos.

- It cannot (really) edit actual life. Only digital reconstructions of it.

**really refers to a feature of Gimp importing and creating scripts or extensions. This exponentially increases functionality. advanced feature. I am writing a script that empties the cat litter box. Ill let you know when its done.

It Can do anything.

The monitor that you are reading this from is based on a technology called pixel mapping. Gimp can edit a pixel map. Therefore, if you can see it on a screen, it can be edited by GIMP.
